Frequently Asked Questions

TUN Library offers various products and  services among  print books, E-resources (e-journals and e-books), digital library, digital archiving, newspapers, past exam papers, thesis and dissertations and projects, reference services; circulation service; current awareness service; user education service; information literacy training among other information related services.

TUN Library generally serves the Tharaka University College community i.e. Students, Staff,  Alumni and visitors.

Visit the TUN library and present your University Identification card to the librarian at the circulation section counter.

Locate the material of interest (book, Newspaper thesis etc) and take the item to the circulation desk counter. The item will be issued to you upon presenting a student’s ID

Go to circulation desk and have the staff renew the material for you OR renew the items online by logging in to your library catalog  account using your given credentials (username and password). A list of all items checked out to you will appear including details of when they are due. Click on renew to renew the item/s

  • The item is overdue and accruing fines
  • The item is on hold for someone else,
  • A recall has been made on that particular item or,
  • you have reached the maximum renewing limit (twice).

NB Renewing item/s refers to extending the deadline of the borrowed books in a limited period of time. However, it can only be done before the due date. Each book can only be renewed twice, one at a time and each time can only be extended by a specified period of time e.g. one week, two weeks or one month depending on user category. Then you will be required to renew one more time and for the last time. Also, note that the new deadline is calculated from the day the book was renewed.

It is prohibited to use someone else identification card and can lead to library access suspension.

All borrowed library items are returned at the circulation issue desk for discharging/checking in.

Long Loan books will each attract an overdue fine of Ksh. 5.00 per day while Short Loan will each attracts a fine of Ksh. 5.00 per hour.

Lost ID’s should be reported immediately to the relevant department and apply for a new one.
Please note that you cannot be issued with a library item without a valid university identification card.

You can search for books from our library catalogue through catalog.tharaka.ac.ke by typing in the Keyword (title, Author or Subject) of the book you’re looking for and check its location, call number, and availability status.

Patrons/Users must first return all overdue items and clear all outstanding fines before borrowing or renewing any library book.

One should report the incident to the Librarian immediately for advice on payment or replacement.

These are scarce and on high demand information materials/books that are borrowed and returned within a short period of time. Usually after two (2) hours.

Login to off-campus access platform using the link: https://admin.myloft.xyz/ Login credentials i.e. user name and password are issued by the librarian.

Present your clearance form together with University Identification card to the librarian at the issue desk.

To access the past exam papers, 

Go to library website (library.tharaka.ac.ke)
Click on the link provided to you at the top of the site (Past Exam Papers)
Choose your appropriate sub-community from either undergraduate (for diploma/ Bachelors) or Postgraduate (Masters/Ph.D.):
Choose your department from the collection options provided.
Browse/search within the collection by either using:

Unit code e.g COMP 101
Unit name e.g Computer Application

Save the results by downloading them to your PC.

Incase you still have the item in your possession, kindly return it! You will be charged a fine if you don’t for the days overdue.

Every item checked out under your account means that you are liable and subsequently responsible for the item/s checked out under your account. Therefore, you are required to take care of them. Make sure you return the same properly. However, check your account regularly and inform the Librarian immediately of any inconsistency.

Once logged into your account, click on purchase suggestions where you can leave your suggestions and comments. The acquisition librarian will act on them.

 Log In to your account via the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). You will see a list of all the e-resources databases TUN Library has subscribed to also check the library website for more updates.

There are two reasons as to why fines appear in your account: When Items are overdue, fines start accruing 5/- per an Item per day.

Yes. But for this to be effected, you need to report immediately the item is lost. Contact the Librarian for more details.
